The Shepherds' Call

Spreading the Word

Reflecting on the timeless message from this weekend's sermon, we find inspiration in the unconventional messengers of the Christmas story: the shepherds. Much like Charles Schultz (the creator of the beloved "Peanuts" cartoons), who defied resistance to share the true meaning of Christmas through Charlie Brown, the shepherds stepped into the spotlight, bringing a profound message of hope. As we explore the major themes, we discover the significance of our roles in making Christ famous.

1. The Unlikely Messengers:

The shepherds, often overlooked in society, became the first heralds of the Savior's birth. In a world obsessed with being the "G.O.A.T." (Greatest of All Time), the shepherds teach us a different lesson. Instead of seeking personal glory, they embraced their role as sheep—followers of the ultimate Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ. Like them, we are called to use our gifts to glorify God, recognizing that true greatness lies in serving and honoring Him.

2. Embracing the Night People:

The shepherds were "night people," abiding in the darkness of the fields. In our daily lives, we encounter various forms of darkness—physical, emotional, or spiritual. The shepherds' encounter with the heavenly hosts in the night inspires us to be on the lookout for opportunities to bring hope to those toiling in the darkness. Our workplaces, communities, and personal struggles can become platforms for sharing the light of Jesus Christ.

3. The Enduring Legacy of Good News:

The shepherds responded with haste, spreading the news of Christ's birth. Like them, our actions, investments, and efforts for the kingdom of God matter. The legacy of those who have gone before us serves as a testament to the enduring impact of acts of love and mercy. As we continue to make Christ known in our generation, we become part of a legacy that extends beyond our time, potentially influencing generations to come.

As we navigate a world clamoring for attention and recognition, let us draw inspiration from the shepherds. By embracing our roles as messengers of hope and bearers of good news, we contribute to making Christ famous. Just as the shepherds left their mark on the Christmas story, our lives, when aligned with God's purpose, can echo through generations, bringing light to the darkest corners and making known the incredible work the Lord has done for us.
