Ephesians 2:8-10 NRSV
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— not the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we may walk in them.
Working for God
When we think about service (working for our Lord), we all called to do works, not because of a feeling of obligation or because it is the right thing to do, but because God created us to do “good works”. We were saved by His Grace and not because of us doing good deeds. But in doing these good works, how much is enough, where does it end? Do we do something monthly, weekly, daily? I believe we should all do the work of the Lord as we are called.
There is no such thing as too much. Just look at what Jesus did. He gave us everything He had; He gave His life for us. Keeping that in mind, we see that opportunities present themselves constantly. Whether it be building “Bethlehem” for RTB as we did last year or something as small as helping someone push a grocery store cart to the bin for them. All these things are pleasing to God, as we are doing His work on this Earth. In Colossians 3:23, it says “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord”. We should all be humbled to be given that opportunity and privilege.
One of our former pastors challenged us during the Lenten season, not only to give up something, but also to do something extra, wherever a need is seen. What a wonderful way to honor our Lord and celebrate the season of Lent!
