Psalms 77:1-9 NRSV
I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, that he may hear me. In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted. I think of God, and I moan; I meditate, and my spirit faints. Selah You keep my eyelids from closing; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. I consider the days of old, and remember the years of long ago. I commune with my heart in the night; I meditate and search my spirit: “Will the Lord spurn forever, and never again be favorable? Has his steadfast love ceased forever? Are his promises at an end for all time? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah
Do You Remember?
Have you read Psalm 77? If you haven’t, pull out your phone and look it up, unless you’re sitting there with your Bible next to you. Done? Quite a psalm, right?
Psalm 77 begins, “I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me.” Maybe this was you last night. If so, this is for you. But if it’s not your current position, think back to those hardest times. They were awful - you were angry, beyond worried, distraught. You could hardly breathe. But God WAS there. For most of us, as time heals and life moves on, we realize that God was there. God didn’t take away the situation. But God saw us through.
THIS is what we need to remember. When the next crisis enters your life, think back to what you have made it through, what God helped you through, and know that God will bring you through this, too. No matter how trivial the situation may be in reality, or how difficult the situation truly is, know that God is right there to hold your hand. You aren’t alone.
So, re-read this Psalm AGAIN!

Today, during this Lenten season as we ponder the death of Christ, help me remember that You were with Jesus in those awful times. You are still here and have already brought me through so much. Help me to remember this and use this to increase my faith in You today and in the times ahead. Amen
